EGULVISION PHOTOGRAPHY: Diane Howley
10/11/2009
Diane’s photographic career began in 1991 exhibiting her work at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Art show for five years; a collection of images celebrating Women’s History Month at the Women’s Health Partnership of Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY and was part of a group exhibition at the Central Park South Art Show, NY, as well as The Long Beach Arts Festival, Long Beach, NY.
She served as Chairperson of the Art Committee, Metro Alumni/Student Association, SUNY Empire State College, NYC and was instrumental in the development and opening of the “Empire Gallery”, a visual arts facility within the Metropolitan Campus. She was curator of “Personal Visions”, a group exhibition at the Empire Gallery and 11 monthly group shows.
Early in her career, she began using a Nikon 35mm camera and is currently working exclusively with a Panasonic Lumix, Leica lens digital camera, taking photography to the next level of self expression. Her philosophy is simple – “Art should be affordable.”
Diane’s work includes, commissions, special events, photojournalism, documentary, fine art and studio work.
This section contains the following images:
Commission by Destia Du Pen Hermes to photograph her father’s (Everett Du Pen) sculpture “Fountain of Creation”. The Sculpture is permanently on display at the Seattle Center.
Bethesda Fountain, Central Park, NY- this image was prepared by applying photographic emulsion to the paper using brushes. The image was on display at the “Empire Gallery” SUNY Empire State College, Metro Campus, NY.
Ponies on Parade - A Call to Artists to decorate 50 ponies to display in Seattle Center for the Christmas holidays, sponsored by Wells Fargo. Entitled “Galloping Through Seattle: Sightseeing in the Emerald City”, the pony was covered with hundreds of images taken in the Seattle area and decoupaged onto the pony. I won an honorarium for my work. The ponies were later auctioned to benefit the Northwest Center for Children.
“Souls Rising”: Tribute to 9/11/01 - This image was chosen to be included in a virtual exhibition sponsored by the Museum of the City of New York.
The Thunderbolt Rollercoaster’s Demise: This image of the Thunderbolt rollercoaster in Coney Island closed in 1983. It was submitted to the Brooklyn Museum for its Virtual Exhibition Gallery “Goodbye Coney Island.” It was torn down on November 17. 2000. The image is the final section of the rails before it was leveled.
